Weather to Fly

In 2020, CASA's Aviation Safety Advisors (ASAs) are running a new series of AvSafety seminars - Weather to fly.

The seminar will focus on pilot decision-making behaviour in the face of adverse weather. The presentation will look at the dangers of flying into IMC as a VFR pilot and focus on ways of preventing it happening through good flight planning and en route decision making.

The information will enhance and refresh pilot's knowledge at all levels.

The seminar will review the resources available and provide practical hints and tips to help pilots operate safely and efficiently.

The seminars are an ideal opportunity for you to interact with your ASA, discuss local issues and ask questions of the regulator.

Maintenance Matters

The Engineering AvSafety Seminar titled Maintenance Matters will discuss three key topics:

  • human factors - error management and leadership
  • maintenance - penetrant inspections and defect reporting
  • regulation reform - charter/air transport and part 43

This seminar will explore the difference between human and system error and the importance of leadership in aviation maintenance. With your input we will discuss these topics, review the issues and their effects.

We will also be reviewing the ins and outs of penetrant inspection, and the what, why, who and how of defect reporting. The seminar will end with a discussion about the proposed GA maintenance regulations for private and air work operations.

Your Aviation Safety Advisor will be available for questions both during and after the presentation.
