Organisers of the Australian International Airshow, AMDA Foundation, have acquired Wings Over Illawarra and will rebrand the event as Airshows Downunder Shellharbour.

The first event under the new branding is slated for March 2024. Wings Over Illawarra was previously run at Albion Park by organizer Mark Bright, who had grown the show from a fly-in to a major event for the Sydney basin.

The move is part of the AMDA Foundation's mission to promote the Australian aviation industry.

The event will feature vintage, warbird, and modern aviation, and a careers and skills day to attract the next generation of aviation enthusiasts. The event will be held in non-Avalon years, cementing Albion Park as the home of NSW airshows for years to come.

AMDA Foundation CEO, Justin Giddings, stated that the organization intends to build on the reputation of Wings Over Illawarra and create an event that promotes the Australian general aviation industry while providing an exciting airshow for families.

The acquisition is part of the AMDA Foundation's expansion plans, which included taking over operating RotorTech, and funding other events such as the Regional Aviation Association of Australia roadshows and the Fly'n for Fun event held at Parkes, NSW.
