NATFLY allows everyone an opportunity to get a broad view of our form of recreational aviation. This is our annual four-day Easter get-together.
This year the event will be staged at Temora aerodrome, New South Wales,
from Thursday April 1 to Sunday April 4 .
The national fly-in provides a venue for aircraft manufacturers and importers to introduce new and forthcoming aircraft, and for other recreational aviation related companies to demonstrate and sell their products; e.g. the latest and greatest avionics, pilot supplies and insurance.
NATFLY also allows the opportunity for home-builders to display their finished projects and, perhaps, win one of the achievement awards.
NATFLY is also our major member event for those who want to meet old friends, make new ones and chat about flying. It also the best opportunity for members to attend forums covering an enormous range of topics on both operational and technical issues; not to mention forums for those with interests in other areas.

OPERATIONAL INFORMATION - flying in and on the ground.
NATFLY Operations: For all Pilots Intending to Fly into Temora For NATFLY 2010.
In conjunction with the AIP SUP, the following information is provided in order to assist pilots with aircraft operations in the vicinity of Temora, and with aircraft operations on the ground.
(Please also refer to the Operations Map and Taxiway Map.)
INBOUND TO TEMORA:
Along with the regulatory requirements, here are a few tips on making life easier for yourself and everyone else.
- Please ensure that you are tracking at hemispherical levels when tracking to Temora. This will assist in separation of those heading in the opposite direction. Remember between 0º and 179º VFR cruising levels of Odd thousands + 500FT; between 180º and 359º Even thousands +500FT
- Ensure you change to Temora CTAF frequency of 126.15MHZ before you get to 10NM so that you can monitor traffic before making your 10NM inbound call. (Please check that you are on the right frequency, Temora is not a standard CTAF frequency)
- KALFOA, which stands for Keep A Lookout For Other Aircraft. A large amount of traffic is expected to be inbound to Temora over the NATFLY period. This traffic will range in cruise speeds from 45KT to 150+KT. Please keep a good eye out for those slower (enjoying the extra time in the air) in front of you. Remember that most people don’t have eyes in the back of their heads.
- There will be a Unicom service operating on the CTAF frequency during the busy periods of aircraft movements. This is NOT AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL, it is an advisory service only and it is up to you as Pilot in Command to see and avoid other aircraft and keep minimum separation.
- Be aware that there may be Powered Parachutes operating below 500FT in an area immediately West of runway 18/36. Their operations should not affect normal circuit procedures and they will be remaining clear of the active circuit and runways.
- Once on the ground and CLEAR of the runway, then please change to frequency 129.9MHZ and advise if you are staying overnight or just day parking.
Please keep transmissions to a minimum on this frequency and follow ground marshalling directions.
ON THE GROUND AT TEMORA:
Please refer to the Operations Map and Taxiway Map.
- The Taxiway Map shows where it will be possible to taxi parallel to runways once you have landed (marked with yellow lines). The taxi way parallel and to the South of Runway 09/27 may not be available depending on runway clearance requirements and ground conditions. These additional taxiways have been made available during NATFLY to minimise runway occupancy time.
- If you now refer to the Operations Map you will see taxiways marked C, D, E, F & G. TXY E will not be available during NATFLY.
- Once your aircraft has been secured, please visit the RA-Aus Temora HQ (located in a hangar at the Western end of TXY E) to register. This is for SAR purposes and so that if anyone is looking for you we know you are on the ground.
- You will also be able to pay your camping fee if you are camping onsite.
- You can also register your interest if you wish to enter your aircraft for either the Cummins Spinner Trophy or the Scott Winton Memorial Shield. (Further information on the various trophies also included in this booklet.)
Underwing Camping
If you are intending to camp at Temora with your aircraft then there are going to be several areas available for this. ALL OF THE CAMPING AREAS WILL BE ENGINE OFF AREAS, NO TURNING PROPELLERS.
- The extension of TXY C is the first area that will be available for Underwing Camping, marked on the map as UW – C.
- Once this area is full then we will move onto UW-D and then UW-G.
- If all of these areas fill up then we will move across to an area West of the threshold of Runway 36.
If you are camped in the area UW-C , it will be possible to taxi along the taxi way with GROUND ESCORT ONLY. Please arrange with ground marshals for escort. Alternatively you can man handle your aircraft outside the camping area before starting engines. All other camping areas require that you man- handle your aircraft outside the marked camping area before starting engines.
Staying Overnight but not camping underwing
- If you are staying but NOT camping with your aircraft, then please let ground marshals know as we have an area set aside for your parking. We would like to be able to keep the under wing camping areas for people that are camping with their aircraft, due to access to facilities.
- The area designated for aircraft which are staying but not camping with your aircraft is located off the Northern end of TXY C. You will be able to walk to and from your aircraft via a pedestrian access, and there will be a courtesy bus running between the aircraft parking and the registration point.
Day Visits
- There will be limited DAY parking only for those visiting but not staying overnight. This will be the area between TXY C and TXY D on the grass. Overflow for day parking will be the area off the Northern end of TXY C.
LOCAL FLIGHTS DURING NATFLY.
- If you would like to go for a fly during the period of NATFLY, then please attend the pilot briefings held every morning from Friday 2nd April til Sunday 4th April in the forum Hangar B at 0800 hrs local time.
- Be aware that there will be numerous aircraft operating within the vicinity of Temora during the Natfly period. Extra care should be taken and “KALFOA”.
- Keep radio transmissions to a minimum; no aircraft to aircraft chat unless to avoid a collision.
- If you miss briefing please attend RA-Aus Temora HQ for any relevant information regarding flight operations for the day.
DEPARTURES.
- Once again there is expected to be high number of aircraft movements in and around the Temora area over the period of NATFLY. Please pay particular attention to radio transmissions and “KALFOA”.
- It is expected that a large number of aircraft will depart on Sunday morning so please be extra vigilant on your outbound track for other aircraft.
- Please remain on the CTAF frequency until you are clear of the vicinity of the Temora CTAF (10NM) to ensure you are aware of any inbound traffic.
If you have any other questions about Operations at NATFLY Temora, and you cannot find the answer within this webpage or from briefing material available from Airservices Australia, then please contact either:
Mick Poole ph. 0400 280 087 or
Lee Ungermann ph. 0428 282 870
We look forward to seeing you at Natfly!
BUS SERVICE & OTHER TRANSPORT
From Thursday morning, a shuttle bus will be operating from the airfield into town. Bus will stop at the motels and at the bus stop in town. It will leave from the Bus Stop on the airfield (see
"Forum & Amenities" map).
"NATFLYers" with cars can help their mates by driving past the bus stop in town and on the field and giving others a lift when they have spare seats.
We are also looking into the possibility of organising cars for hire,
through the assistance of local car yards. If you're interested in this concept,
it would be helpful if you could contact RA-Aus head office (02 6280 4700) so we can give some idea of numbers.

Temora Aviation Museum.
The Temora Aviation Museum has offered a special deal for "NATFLYers": a one-day, multiple entry fee is $10 per person. Get your hand stamped and come and go as you please from 10am to 4pm.
